A fair shot at dinner.

  1. Build your table.Add everyone's name and a few real options. Mix meals at home and restaurant picks.
  2. Pass the phone.Pass one phone or invite everyone to vote on their own. Rate each option: No, Fine, Like, or Love. No running scores.
  3. Protect every no.One No takes an option off the table. Fine means “I'd be happy enough to go.”
  4. Find common ground.We compare each option's lowest rating first, then the next-lowest. The strongest compromise wins. Equally fair choices with equal enthusiasm get a random tiebreaker.
Home meals and nearby restaurants can share one shortlist. If every option gets a No, we'll say so. Restaurant listings come from OpenStreetMap and may be incomplete or outdated; check hours and food requirements with the restaurant. Distances are straight-line estimates. Near me sends your selected location to the selected restaurant provider (Google Places when enabled, otherwise VK Maps/OpenStreetMap); City and ZIP lookup search around approximate area centers. Dinners save automatically to the server. Wait for “Saved” before closing. Keep handoffs private.
Privacy for Dinner Truce

Your dinners: names, selected choices, votes and results are saved on Dinner Truce’s server until you delete them. Signed-in dinners belong to your account. Anonymous dinners use a secure browser cookie: clearing it or letting it expire after 30 days loses access. Signing in does not automatically transfer an earlier anonymous dinner to your account.

Private handoffs hide previous ballots on screen. For shared-phone dinners, anyone with access to the same browser or signed-in account can reopen its dinners. In multiplayer, each device receives only its assigned ballot; other people see completion status and the final group summary. Invite visitors request a seat for the host to approve. Participant access uses the same secure browser cookie. Invite links remain valid until the dinner is deleted; completed dinners do not admit new guests. Shared-phone results retain optional individual receipts; multiplayer results show group summaries only. This is not protection against someone inspecting the device.

People and groups: optional ChatGPT sign-in saves your dinner profile and reusable circle. Delete a dinner from Active Dinners or History. Delete your account-owned dinner data from People & groups. Historical names stay as they appeared that night. No analytics, advertising profiles or preference learning are collected.

Restaurant search: ZIP lookup uses Zippopotam.us, city lookup uses Photon, and restaurant discovery uses Google Places when enabled, otherwise VK Maps/OpenStreetMap. Restaurant queries and the chosen search area are sent to that provider. Near Me asks permission and sends the requested area to the search provider. For Google choices, we save the Place ID and Dinner Truce’s own choice identifiers; live Google details are not saved in History. Existing provider choices retain their permitted details. We do not save search-center GPS or location history. Directions offer Google Maps and Apple Maps on supported devices; fonts load from Google.
